Environmental remediation efforts and public infrastructure improvements are among the state funding requests being pursued this year by lawmakers representing Manatee County.
State Rep. Will Robinson has introduced bills that seek funding for initiatives throughout the county, which also include health care and education efforts.
“The projects I filed are important to our regional area and could have a lasting impact for years to come,” Robinson said. “We are in a tough budget year, but if resources are available to fund important projects, I want my community to have an opportunity to get our priorities in the budget.”
Some of the largest funding requests are for coastal infrastructure and projects with environmental implications.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) -Local school districts have had to figure out backup plans after the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act requiring them to cover COVID leave for employees exposed to the virus has now come to an end.
Despite the federal government no longer making it a requirement both school districts on the Suncoast have kept some form of emergency paid COVID leave. Sarasota County School District and Manatee County School District have different plans. Sarasota schools agreed months ago employees would have 20 COVID leave days to use if needed. Manatee Schools chairman alleges fraud in Lincoln Memorial Academy case
Manatee County School Board Chairman Charlie Kennedy signed an affidavit last Friday alleging that the School Board relied on falsified evidence when it seized control of Lincoln Memorial Academy, a charter school in Palmetto, in 2019.
Kennedy’s statement resurrects a long-simmering controversy over the legitimacy of a water bill that was used as evidence that poor fiscal management at LMA was putting children at risk.
The city of Palmetto issued a water shut-off notification to the charter school in July 2019 that Lincoln supporters and Kennedy say was cooked up to make the school look mismanaged and to provide the pretext for the district’s seizing control.
