Picture: RAMA/FILE Fiji is no exception to trafficking in persons (TIP) says Defence, National Security and Policing Ministry permanent secretary Manasa Lesuma. He made this comment while opening the “Countering Human Trafficking Training” in Nadi yesterday. “Trafficking in persons is a transnational crime that does not respect borders, it is one of the worst forms of crimes against humanity.” Mr Lesuma said Fiji’s partnership with donor partners such as the International Organization for Migration helped the Government identify possible victims and successful prosecution of perpetrators. “Our labour market is expanding whereby we are not only sourcing employment within Fiji, but importing and exporting labour to and from other countries.”

Picture: RAMA THE trafficking of human beings does not respect borders and is one of the worst forms of violence that impinges on the fundamental rights of human beings. This, according to International Organization for Migration Chief of Mission in Fiji, Solomon Kantha. He was speaking at the International Labour Organization (ILO) validation workshop of Convention 190 (C190); violence and harassment in the world of work yesterday. Mr Kantha said it was a heinous crime where human beings were deceived, forced, or coerced and transported or moved from one place to another across borders either international or within a country for the sole purpose of exploitation whether it is sexual exploitation, labour exploitation, or domestic servitude for the benefit of the traffic

Violence and harassment at work places has persisted for years - Lesuma Violence and harassment at work places has persisted for years - Lesuma Wednesday 17/02/2021 The Acting Permanent Secretary for Employment Manasa Lesuma says violence and harassment which includes unethical behaviours in workplaces has persisted for a number of years now. While speaking at the International Labour Organization Validation Workshop of C190: Violence and Harassment in the World of Work this morning, Lesuma says this may have been due to our silence and lack of proper practical mechanisms. He says violence and harassment is unacceptable anywhere and anytime. Lesuma adds the risk of violence and harassment is even higher during times of crisis and we must all work collectively to address the issue in the work environment.
