It’s the first time the Manakura Award has been presented since 2018 and comes with a cheque for $30,000. Ms Gardiner-Parata is studying law at the University of Waikato. Undergraduate scholarships also went to Isaac Smiler, who is studying medicine and surgery at the University of Otago, and Kirihautu Durie-Ngata who is studying towards a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Accounting and Māori and Indigenous Studies at the University of Waikato.
