Failing Coopersburg bridge closed indefinitely

A failing bridge in Lehigh County has been closed indefinitely because of deterioration, PennDOT officials have announced.
West State Street in Coopersburg was closed in both directions as of Thursday, over the small span between Main Street and John Alley, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said last week.
The road is closed indefinitely until repairs can be made, the department noted.
“Over the years, we’ve seen decay on it,” Borough Manager Tim Paashaus said. That included a recent dip and settling in the roadway, and sinking of the sidewalk.
Traffic will be detoured to Gun Club Road, Mill Road and Main Street.
