MANTECA MAY BRING BACK CLEAN-UP DAYS Part of what could be a multifaceted city plan to combat the ‘trashing’ of Manteca For more than six months in 2018 people kept illegally dumping furniture and garbage in the 600 block of North Lincoln Avenue in Manteca until the city stepped in.
Communitywide clean up days may be returning.
It is part of a game plan city staff is crafting for council consideration after elected leaders last month declared that beautifying Manteca by fighting illegal dumping, debris left by homeless, graffiti, blight, and other issues that are trashing the city was a top tier municipal priority.

year to clarify finances
The fund accounting issue goes back to irregularities in the city’s books uncovered last fall that the finance department is still trying to sort out. Included is the fact the last time the city’s ledger was properly balanced was at the end of the 2018-2019 fiscal year 19 months ago.
Interim Finance Director Stephanie Beauchaine noted staff is not comfortable providing account balance numbers in a number of cases. That’s because funds that are restricted by law were placed in the wrong accounts over the years.
She noted that as the finance department steadily works at putting the puzzle together numbers change almost daily as charges and revenue are assigned the correct account. The process is tedious and time consuming as the city wants to have all the pieces in the right place so going forward the council and public will have a correct and current snapshot of municipal finances.

MANTECA DROPS QUAEX FOR HOMELESS WITH ( ) City Council sees 8-acre South Main site as best way for holistic homeless solution The 8.1 acres are along South Main Street between B.R. Funsten Flooring and Extra Space Storage.
Manteca’s elected leaders are walking away from the Qualex site as the linchpin in a stepped up effort to address the city’s homeless problems.
They will continue to squat, so to speak, on the Qualex parking lot by using it for temporary homeless services such as the current warming center until someone in Sacramento tells the city they have to auction off the site as part of the shutdown of the former Manteca Redevelopment Agency that then Gov. Jerry Brown pulled the plug on 10 years ago to help the state weather the Great Recession.
