Fire crews fighting the blaze on Sunday night
Pic: Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service FIREFIGHTERS have been praised after working throughout the night in icy conditions to extinguish a blaze in Leigh involving about 300 tonnes of hay and wood. As reported last night (Sunday), the large fire broke out in a field near Hooten Lane, Leigh, prompting a huge response from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. At the blaze s height, ten fire engines and specialist appliances were at the scene. It covered an area of around 100 metres by 100 metres and crews spent time battling the blaze using handheld firefighting jets a high-volume pump.
