In an advisory, the FDA reiterated the ban of all silver jewelry cleaners containing cyanide to avoid the potential risks of cyanide exposure to human health.
The country’s food and drug regulatory agency explained that cyanide is a highly toxic chemical which may be inhaled, absorbed through the skin or ingested accidentally or deliberately even at small doses.
It warned that exposure to cyanide may result to dizziness, headache, nausea and vomiting, rapid breathing, rapid heart rate, restlessness and weakness or may lead to respiratory failure, loss of consciousness and possibly death, among others.
