shinseki, republican lawmakers are continuing to pressure the administration over the mismanagement of the department of veterans affairs. this is the biggest health care scandal in the v.a. history. and america deserves to know whether the president is committed to doing whatever it takes to make things right. you deserve to know whether he will personally step in and see this through. this, while legislation sits in both chambers. it passed the management accountability act of 2014 last month, allowing the v.a. secretary to remove anybody he deems under performing. the senate is working on a similar piece of legislation with added protections and a section granting veterans more access to alternative facilities. sackeding secretary acting secretary sloan gibson is moving ahead prior to any legislation. we will be revising and enhancing or scheduling and the
the secretary has the tools, resources and the confidence of the v.a. staff and veterans to create real reform. secretary shinseki is gone. the question is, what are the resources, the tools needed to move forward? well, one of the things that needs to happen is, you know, congress has given the v.a. every dime its asked for and more. definitely concern the v.a. is not asking for enough resources. that the administration has not been forthright about exactly the amount of money the v.a. needs. so congress needs to step up and increase funding for the v.a. even if the v.a. doesn t ask for it now. it also needs to pass the v.a. management accountability act, which passed the house overwhelmingly. it s bogged down in the senate now. but that would were give the new secretary the tools to more easily fire non-performing bureaucrats. there s a bure crass problem at the v.a. and the new select have
going to do that much? it s a systematic problem. you would say what? it definitely is a systematic problem. i don t know if he s part of the system that is the problem here. but the problem definitely is fundamental. it s penetrating within the v.a. the v.a. is the second largest bureaucracy in the nation. the administration s known for a long time the v.a. has pathol y pathologies that have metastasized within it. but there comes a point where somebody has to take responsibility. it s been years since they ve known about these problems. they re just coming out now in the media because there have been patient deaths as a result of them that we know about finally and whistle-blowers brave enough to come forward, many of whom claim they lost their jobs as a result of doing that. as a policymaker for our iraq and our afghanistan vets, what do you think the solution is? i think congress has a couple of things it can do. the v.a. management accountability act that the house just pa
