says it, you know, is sort of irrelevant at this stage. what we have to understand is donald trump has the only defense strategy that donald trump has at this stage is what i ll call tlp, tweets, lies, and pardons. that s all he s got left at this stage. so the fact that he is going gang busters on the first two at least, you know, the couple dozen tweets this morning, the lies about what was said today in the manafort sentencing, and the dangling of the pardon, of which of course we know sarah sanders has not denied at this stage. that s the defense strategy. so we shouldn t be surprised that trump is essentially sort of doing what his lawyers said. he does not have the facts at this stage. we know that because so many people close to him are in jail at this stage. there s like, you can t deny that reality. so april, he s trying to create an alternative reality? he figures if he says it, there are enough people who will either believe him or be confused enough by what he s saying an
sentencing. what is the biggest thing you have your eye on in the next few days? well, i think first of all, it s important to note that the mueller investigation fathers to be far from over. while manafort may have his final day in court today. everybody was talking about a light sentence last week, he could get a lot more time this week. and this one is arguably more directly tied to the mueller investigation. so, it s important to sort of keep not lose the forest for the trees. the tree being a light sentence last week. the forest being, wow, you know, the president s former campaign chairman is getting a lot of time in jail. and, zach, i want to take a look at 2020 as well. we got some pretty big information. some developments in two of the candidates that have so many eyes on them. beto o rourke. cnn reporting that he s kind of got his finger on the button, ready to go. and joe biden talking to two groups and essentially saying, he s pretty much there, he may need help in th
a case, and we ll be talking about the u.s. attorney, the justice department up in the massachusetts district bringing this case about parents and colleges. you know, they re amassing evidence and telling a story and they re making a case. here you have mueller who is investigating, no matter where that takes him. and in the end he gets a cooperator in manafort, and maybe that has limited value, maybe it has more value, we ll find out ultimately. but it plays out wherever it takes him. it s not in service of a grand narrative because it could be he finds ultimately nothing. i think that s the difference in these in these cases. and son when y and so when you think about the political blowback, he s approaching this different than another kind of prosecutor. sara, let s look forward because it s a big week. today the manafort sentencing. thursday roger stone s status
