Krishnagiri: A 21-year-old newly-wed woman, who came to her parents’ house with her husband to celebrate Ugadhi and Puthandu (Telugu and Tamil New Year), was shot dead by her drunk father during a family dispute near Thally here on Wednesday night. She was pregnant for three months. Police have launched a manhunt for the accused, who have gone into hiding.
The Thally police identified the deceased as A Venkatalakshmi, of Varathegoundanthotty village. “It was only recently that she got married to Seena, 27, of Malur in Karnataka, and moved to her husband’s place. She came home on Tuesday to celebrate the festival with her parents.”

COIMBATORE: A 54-year-old man murdered his 15-year-old daughter by slitting her throat with a knife before jumping to death in full public view from the third floor of his apartment at the slum clearance board’s housing unit at Aathikattur near Maniyakaranpalayam in Salem district. The man resorted to the crime in the early hours of Friday after his daughter allegedly shamed him over his unstable mental condition.
Edappadi police said Gopal, a vegetable seller, committed the murder when his wife was away in Dharmapuri for agriculture work. “He had been under treatment at the Salem government hospital for mental illness for the past one and a half years,” a police officer said.

In a shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his 20-month-old daughter after his wife asked for Rs 5 to buy a sweet for the child in Maharashtra s Gondia district.
The incident took place on February 2 at Lonara village, over 900 km from Mumbai. The accused, identified as 28-year-old Vivek Uike, allegedly killed his daughter in a fit of rage after his wife told him that the child was crying and asking for Khaja a sweet snack made of wheat flour.
The man killed his daughter and his mother-in-law before turning gun on himself, police said.

Bhupinder Singh, 57, shot his teen daughter, Jasleen Kaur, and 55-year-old Manjeet Kaur inside his home in the town of Schodack, about 19 kms south of Albany. Preliminary investigation has determined that 14-year-old Jasleen Kaur and 55-year-old Manjeet Kaur, both of Castleton on the Hudson, died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during a domestic incident that occurred at their residence at approximately 9:30 pm on Wednesday, New York State Police said.
