Many people in this country have been fed a single story, and not only has that single story omitted many of us, been responsible for dangerous stereotypes and so divisiveness in the populous, it fed us an extremely white-washed and heavily edited version of history, said N Diaye, keynote speaker at the College of Wooster s virtual Martin Luther King Jr. Day program.
N Diaye – a Mauritanian-American comedian, filmmaker, writer, activist and former seventh-grade science teacher – offered his insight on the fight for social justice and welcoming fresh perspectives that differ from what has been outlined in textbooks and mainstream media.

Area counties are celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, though the holiday won t be as packed with activities and service projects throughout the community as normal.
To avoid gatherings and further spread of COVID-19, some organizations are opting for virtual events and programs. Others are still meeting, though activities are modified to follow safety guidelines.
Here are some events happening locally to commemorate King s achievements.
College of Wooster
The College of Wooster is celebrating MLK Day virtually this year. The Fierce Urgency of Now: Education of Transformation events begin at 10 a.m. Monday and last until 5:45 p.m. Programming is free and open to the public.
