KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress on Monday showcased eight central awards that Bengal had won from the BJP-ruled Centre to rebut Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bad governance charge and called his “teleprompter performance. a bag of lies.”
Derek O’Brien, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP, in a statement questioned the Centre’s intent, alleging that Bengal had already sent details of 2.5 lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sammann Nidhi to the Centre, but no one had received anything. On Modi’s charge that Bengal had not utilised Rs 1,700 crore that the Centre had provided for clean piped water, the party said: “Mamata Banerjee’s Jal Swapno scheme, which is being implemented, will provide piped water to two crore households, at a cost of Rs 58,000 crore 35 times the Centre’s claim of Rs 1,700 crore which is borne entirely by the state government.”
