Reactions to the Nationalist Party’s vision entitled ‘A new energy future for Malta: 2021- 2030 -2050’ have been widely positive and welcoming.
The Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry acknowledged that the energy sector requires long-term planning, ensuring security of supply for a stable and sustainable future economy, as proposed in our strategy.
The Renewable Energy Section within the Malta Developers’ Association acknowledged the importance of having a strategy that has a mix of short-, medium- and long-term initiatives, noting our various initiatives aimed at encouraging consumers towards energy efficient systems, namely the introduction of domestic batteries and air-to-water heat pumps.
A commemoration event was held on Tuesday, exactly one year to the day of when Miriam Pace was buried underneath the rubble of her own home after a construction accident.
The commemoration, organised by NGO Repubblika, took place at 2.30pm, marking the hour during which the incident took place.
Protesters gathered in silence as they placed a photograph of Pace on the site of the former family home.
“We gathered here today to remember Miriam Pace, right next to the debris where she was killed,” Repubblika’s president Robert Aquilina said.
Her death, he said, occurred during a “mad rush to fill up someone’s bank account while others choke on concrete.

The former director-general of the Chamber for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Vince Farrugia, has died aged 77. He was a long-time director of the GRTU.
Businessman Mario Debono, who heads the Chamber’s pharmaceutical sector, paid tribute to Farrugia – a former candidate for MEP who ran on the PN ticket in 2009 – who he described as a “giant”.
“Words cannot describe the stature of this man amongst small and medium business owners. He was a mentor to many, a safe harbour for the many small businesses that sought his help, a consensus builder on many an agreement with governments, and someone who was never afraid of any challenge, even the most onerous,” he said.
