Alcoa Highway greenway adds link from Knoxville to Smokies

On the map It may be just 0.6 mile, but Charles Blalock & Sons construction crews just completed a key stretch of the Knox-Blount Greenway.
It is a piece of the puzzle that is a 45-mile long-term project designed to ultimately take pedestrians and cyclists from Knoxville to the Great Smoky Mountains.
“Work on the section began as early as 2003 and the easement for this section was secured in 2010,” said Keith Kirkland, the Public Building Authority construction manager. “The city and the county worked cooperatively to secure all of the easements from the University of Tennessee.”
