Hampton is proposing red light cameras along Mallory Street and Settlers Landing Road in an attempt to reduce congestion on residential streets that feed into I-64.
The City of Hampton is postponing a traffic plan that would temporarily close access to the Settlers Landing Road eastbound I-64 ramp. The program, which had been scheduled to start in early June, has been pushed back to later in the summer.
If city council passes the proposal in May, the I-64 E ramp would be closed Monday-Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. For the month of June, the access would be closed coming from Hampton University. For the month of July, access would be closed coming from Woodland.
The city said they are working with map applications like Apple, Google and WAZE to update their data to show the closure. There are also signs posted through the city and on the interstate to warn drivers of the closure.
