Malinda Maynor Lowery named second Cahoon Family Professor in Emory College

Acclaimed historian and documentary film producer Malinda Maynor Lowery has been named the second Cahoon Family Professor in American History in Emory College of Arts and Sciences. A member of the Lumbee Tribe, Lowery has focused much of her scholarly research, award-winning books and films on questions of Native culture, identity and migration. She will join the faculty and begin teaching this fall while also helping strengthen the presence of Native and Indigenous studies at Emory. “Malinda Lowery is nationally renowned as a historican and a scholarly leader,” says Michael A. Elliott, dean of Emory College of Arts and Sciences. “I am thrilled to welcome her as a colleague who will play an important role in shaping the future of the university and its engagement with Native American studies.”
