As one of the world’s most coveted dining destinations, Noma has undoubtedly helped shape Copenhagen’s reputation as a culinary mecca, and 2020 was no exception for vibrant new arrivals.
Prolific Copenhagen restaurant Noma has opened a burger joint featuring an interior filled with natural materials and plants designed by Spacon & X.
Born out of a summer pop-up, POPL is a diner in Copenhagen s pretty Christianshavn neighbourhood, serving a simple menu of burgers, fries and light bites.
POPL is designed by Danish studio Spacon & X, the Emerging Interior Designer of the Year from the inaugural Dezeen Awards in 2018.

The interior design takes cues from Izakaya, informal drinking venues that can be found in Japan. The aim was to create a raw simplicity but to also create a feeling of warmth and comfort.

Designed by Danish architects Spacon & X, the new Popl in Copenhagen sees the world’s most influential restaurant chart a more populist course
Copenhagen-based architects Spacon & X have designed Popl with custom furnishings throughout. The palette of natural wood, poppy red, moss green, and pale yellow evoke the Noma garden by Piet Oudolf, where their burger was first served at a pop-up in summer 2020.

In a year of stay-at-home orders and restaurant closures, the arrival of the Noma burger was an unexpected culinary highlight. In mid-May, as Denmark was emerging from its first lockdown, chef René Redzepi announced the opening on Instagram with an image of a beef patty and bun – photogenic and alluring, but certainly more neighbourhood fare than fine dining. ‘Before we reopen Noma as we know it, we will transform into a no
