CRAIG BROWN: 52 years on, and Beatles fans are still uncovering mysteries on Abbey Road cover

Fifty-two years ago this summer, The Beatles were finding it hard to decide on a suitable cover and title for their forthcoming album. They had already juggled with Four In The Bar and All Good Children Go To Heaven but had then switched to the idea of calling it Everest, to be accompanied by a cover photograph of the four of them scaling the highest mountain in the world. Paul, the most energetic of the four, was particularly excited by the idea, but John and George were prevaricating and Ringo was dead against it, since foreign food disagreed with him.

Fears over nightmare congestion from potential Devizes development

PEOPLE have hit out at what they describe as ridiculous proposals for a swathe of potential houses in Devizes. Part of Wiltshire Police’s county HQ on London Road, Devizes, is to be sold because it has not used for years - and could be marketed with planning permission for homes. The green area to the north, between Parkfields and Quakers Road, is no longer required, and the proceeds of any sale will be invested back into front line staffing and associated facilities. The decision came after Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Wiltshire and Swindon Angus Macpherson reviewed all police sites and associated buildings as part of his Estates Strategy 2017-21.
