A NEW book focusing on the life of Buzzcocks founder Pete Shelley will be published in 2021. Ever Fallen in Love: The Lost Buzzcocks Tapes is based on a series of long, personal and in-depth interviews between the musician and his close friend Louie Shelley. The book will also include previously unseen photographs taken by Buzzcocks band members, as well as memorabilia, classic punk fanzines and record covers, with the cover artwork designed by Malcolm Garrett, the designer of Buzzcocks record sleeves and posters. Leigh-born Shelley, who died in 2018, formed Buzzcocks at the Bolton Institute of Technology in 1975. The band went on to be one of the most successful of the punk era with seven UK top 40 singles.
The plaque has been unveiled A BLUE plaque has been unveiled at the former home of the late Buzzcocks singer Pete Shelley. Pete, from Leigh, died after suffering a heart attack at his home in Estonia in December 2018 at the age of 63. To mark the two-year anniversary of his passing, a plaque was revealed at his former Leigh home. Malcolm Garrett, a designer who worked with Buzzcocks, unveiled the plaque at Landside, Pennington. Pete s family were in attendance for the revealing. The blue plaque, though provided by the council, is thanks to the hard work and long-standing relationship with the Pete Shelley Memorial Campaign Group, who have been raising funds for more than a year for a permanent memorial in the town.
