OUR Covid-19 situation is getting worse day by day. A combination of issues have led us to this point, and our only hope to return to manageable numbers and some sense of normalcy, is a well-executed and accelerated vaccine programme. That is a challenge as we are only receiving our supplies in smallish but progressively we will received larger supplies soon, that will allow a rapid scale-up.
Vaccine hesitancy is a real issue in Malaysia, but it is a global phenomenon. When our numbers were low anti-vaxxers were loud. In the West, when they had to deal with peak numbers earlier than us and vaccines were available, mass vaccination programmes started earlier have clearly brought the numbers of cases and admissions down rapidly. KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (Xinhua) Malaysia on Tuesday received the first batch of locally filled and finished doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech.
The first batch of 290,480 doses manufactured by Malaysia s leading pharmaceutical company Pharmaniaga were handed over to Health Minister Adham Baba in a brief ceremony on Tuesday.
Pharmaniaga said the company had recently obtained a lot release approval for its filled and finished product from Malaysia s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), which allowed the vaccines to be distributed to the Health Ministry designated health facilities.

KUALA LUMPUR (XINHUA) – Malaysia on yesterday received the first batch of locally filled and finished doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech.
The first batch of 290,480 doses manufactured by Malaysia’s leading pharmaceutical company Pharmaniaga were handed over to Health Minister Adham Baba in a brief ceremony yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Xinhua) Malaysia regulators on Friday granted a conditional approval for the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech and produced in Malaysia in a move expected to boost Malaysia s anti-coronavirus effort as well as its pharmaceutical industry.
According to the decision made by Malaysia s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), the Malaysian pharmaceutical company Pharmaniaga will fill and finish the Sinovac vaccines locally.
Under the conditional approval, the CoronaVac vaccines to be produced locally will be used in emergency, Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.
