PETALING JAYA: Tourism Malaysia will be on a campaign to woo more Chinese and Indian tourists, now that they can enter the country without visas for short trips.
KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian tourism roadshow, aimed at re-establishing Malaysia as a prime destination for Chinese tourists, will be launched across four major cities in China.
UNCERTAIN about when Chinese tourists one of the country’s largest source of tourist revenue before the Covid-19 outbreak will return to the market, hospitality players are turning to tourists from countries like India and Indonesia to fill the gap. Pre-pandemic, China had been a major tourist market globally as 10% of its 1.41 billion population travelled internationally. The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in its International Tourism Highlights, 2020 Edition, said that in 2019, China was the world’s top spender in international tourism, spending US$255 billion.
