LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health is in the process of setting up a call centre to improve the monitoring process by the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC), says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (

He said the call centre would receive calls from patients with symptoms to be channeled to the relevant CAC, as well as receive calls related to general inquiries on the Home Surveillance Order (HSO) and redirecting emergency calls to MERS 999 (Malaysia Emergency Response Services).
“For a start, it will be implemented in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya which have a high caseload. Apart from that, the MOH will also add telephone lines at 33 CACs in the three states, to reduce call congestion,“ he said in a statement today.

MELAKA: The Melaka and Negeri Sembilan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a tanker fleeing from Johor MMEA detention, in the waters of the Straits of Melaka early this morning.
Its director, Captain (Maritime) Haris Fadzillah Abdullah, said that the MT JW Jewel tanker was detained at 2.30 am this morning, about 1.9 nautical miles from Tanjung Tuan beach.
“The MT JW Jewel tanker was previously detained by the Johor MMEA, for anchoring without permission in the waters of Tanjung Balau, before it was detected missing from the location where it was detained.
IPOH: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has arrested four Indonesian fishermen for encroaching and fishing illegally in Malaysian waters.
Perak MMEA director Captain Shahrizan Raman said the four men were spotted fishing in their boat some 16 nautical miles from Pulau Jarak, Lumut at about 5.40pm on Saturday (Feb 6).
Shahrizan said all four men did not have any identification documents. All of them were detained at the Kampung Bharu vessel detention centre on Saturday. They will be handed over to the investigating officer for further action, he said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 7)
Shahrizan said for the offence under the Fisheries Act of fishing in Malaysian waters without the permit of the Fisheries Department director-general, the boat s captain could be fined up to RM6mil.
