No 15 Florida State Begins ACC Play With Two Weekend Matches

TALLAHASSEE – The 15th-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team begins ACC play this weekend when it travels to play No. 65 Virginia Tech and No. 21 Virginia. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 2 singles player in the nation, the highest ranking of any FSU men’s tennis player in school history. Cornut-Chauvinc enters this weekend’s matches with an 8-0 record with five of those wins coming against ranked opponents.  Cornut-Chauvinc has won three weekly honors after winning ACC’s co-Player of the Week on January 31, and earning Player of the Week and Doubles Pair of the Week on January 17.  Sophomores Maks Silagy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif earned Florida State its fourth weekly award this season after earning ACC Doubles Pair of the Week on February 28. Silagy And Dous-Karpenschif s Ranked Win Earns Them ACC Doubles Pair Of The Week

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State sophomores Joshua Dous-Karpenschif and Maks Silagy, who earned Florida State the doubles point against UCF, have been named ACC Doubles Pair of the Week on Tuesday.  Silagy and Karpenschif who were playing at No. 1 doubles for the first time this season, defeated the No. 48-ranked doubles pair, Lleyton Cronje and Bogdan Pavel of UCF. The match was tied 3-3 before Silagy and Karpenschif won three straight games to hand UCF’s doubles pair its first loss of the season.  The pair’s 6-3 win on court No. 1 clinched the doubles point for Florida State. The Seminoles went on to defeat UCF by a 6-1 margin.  Dous-Karpenschif earned his second win of the weekend after he clinched the match for Florida State with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 come-from-behind win on court No. 5, gave FSU a 4-1 lead.  Dous-Karpenschif, Silagy and the Seminoles are back in action Friday with the beginning of ACC play on Friday when they travel to play No. 65 Virginia Tech at Burrows-

TALLAHASSEE – The 16th-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team opens the dual-match portion of its schedule with two matches in Hawai’i this weekend. FSU plays its first spring match Friday at Hawai’i and compete against Cal on Sunday, also in Honolulu. The Seminoles, who boast three of the nation’s top-53 singles players, return seven contributors from last year’s team that advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 12 singles player in the nation. He finished his fall schedule with a 13-3 overall record after advancing to the semifinal round of the ITA Fall Championships in San Diego. Men Complete Perfect Day With Win Over Samford

Box Score Tallahassee, FL – The Florida State men’s tennis team completed a perfect day on the courts with a 4-0 win over Samford Friday evening. FSU defeated South Alabama earlier in the day to improve to 4-0 on the year having dropped just one point in four matches. “It was a good day overall,” said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We got challenged by South Alabama this morning and came right back and picked up another win tonight.” The Seminoles made quick work in doubles versus Samford Friday evening taking the point 2-0. Youcef Rihane and Bryn Nahrung were off first at 6-0.
