KOTA BHARU: It is high time for Bumiputera companies to pioneer gold mining activities in the country and become household names, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said for a start, a company could do mining moderately and it would be sufficient enough to cover its own needs until the production of the final product.
He also expressed his confidence in the ability of Bumiputera companies to embark in such activities and they should be given the opportunities to do so.
“Perhaps the government should introduce a new mining industry as we all know there are many Bumiputeras who are highly skilled. When there are companies (involved in this sector) then the Bumiputeras will be proud to enter the arena that was previously pioneered by others,” he said.

PETALING JAYA: Jewellers are raking in sparkling profits as the demand for gold continues to rise during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many jewellery retail chains have reported unprecedented sales during this period as gold, which is seen as a hedge against inflation, retains its lustre.
Since the movement control order (MCO) was implemented in March, the demand for gold has skyrocketed.
The owner of the Kedai Emas Merchant9 in Kuala Lumpur, Nik Haniff Nik Hamid, saw a 100% increase in profits over last year.
He told theSun yesterday that although the market seems to be erratic with the price of gold fluctuating, many Malaysians continue to invest in gold .
