Nearly $4 million in road, water, and sewer work is set to go ahead this summer after gaining city council approval Monday. (File photo) THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay’s city council awarded nearly $4 million of road, sewer, and water infrastructure work on Monday, with streets including Vickers up for improvements over the summer. A contract for rehabilitation of roads, watermains, and sanitary sewers on three south end streets accounts for the bulk of that expense. Council voted unanimously to award the tender for the work on Leland, Heron, and Vickers streets to Makkinga Contracting and Equipment Rentals, which submitted the lowest tender at $3,049,573.94, including HST.

Infrastructure Projects On The Table

Two infrastructure votes are set to take place at Thunder Bay Council. Starting off Monday’s proceedings will be the sewer and watermain contract, as council will determine whether Makkinga Contracting and Equipment Rentals will be awarded. Makkinga was the lowest bidder at a price tag of $3,049,573.94 for the tender. The second infrastructure vote will focus on the city’s asphalt paving contract.
