Development and resentment among farmers may decide the way the residents of this western constituency vote
For Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, much is at stake on his home turf of Edappadi in Salem district. He is contesting from the seat for the sixth time since 1989, having lost in 2006 to V. Kaveri of the PMK.

TIRUCHY: The DMK has fielded its own candidates on the Rising Sun symbol against 24 of the 27 AIADMK ministers, who are seeking re-election in the upcoming Assembly polls.
Following the completion of seat-sharing talks, the DMK on Friday morning announced its list of 173 candidates for the polls. A closer look at the seats to be contested by the DMK reveal that the Dravidian party has chosen to square off its own candidates against the current AIADMK ministers in all but three constituencies. In those three constituencies, seats have been allocated to its alliance partners, namely Congress in Udumalaipettai and the CPM in Kovilpatti and Dindigul.

‘Alleged suicide of a Thoothukudi-based farmer showed the govt.’s indifference’
Accusing the AIADMK government of failing to protect farmers and their interests, DMK president M. K. Stalin on Sunday said that the alleged suicide of a Thoothukudi-based farmer in distress was a reflection of the indifferent attitude of the ruling dispensation towards the plight of farmers.
Speaking at a ‘Makkal Grama Sabha’ at Kuppuchipalayam near Vangal, Mr. Stalin said it was shocking to know that the farmer, belonging to Pillayanatham in Thoothukudi, who could not bear the failure of his maize crop, had ended his life leaving a note to his two-year-old granddaughter.
