January 31, 2021 Share Minority as a term has not been defined in India’s Constitution. However, Articles 29 and 30 of the Indian Constitution deals with the minorities. The National Commission of Minorities Act 1992 defined it as, “a community notified as such by the Central government.” There are six notified minorities in India: Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, Christian, Sikh and Muslim. The Indian Government has been working relentlessly for preserving, protecting and developing these minorities in every sphere. That is why we see a separate Ministry for the minorities in the Indian Cabinet: Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA). This Ministry develops frameworks for accomplishing the desired goal that is the upliftment of these minorities.
