This is the first year for the event, and the theme is Making Lives Matter, Where Do We Go From Here, which acknowledges the work we have yet to do. The motorcade is in celebration of the example set by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the hope he instilled in our community that change will come.

MLK motorcade set Jan. 17 Dec. 30, 2020 FacebookTwitterEmail ALTON The Alton Branch NAACP is planning its first ever motorcade to celebrate the memory and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 17. The event’s theme, “Making Lives Matter, Where Do We Go from Here,” acknowledges the work yet to be done. The NAACP asks that motorcade participants meet at the Lincoln-Douglas Square in downtown Alton by 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, to ensure a prompt 2 p.m. departure to James Killion (Salu) Park. People are invited to use creative decor on their vehicles. Upon arrival at the park, there will be a wreath-laying in honor of Dr. King and brief remarks to commemorate the moment.
