CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the Premont Independent School District have entered into a partnership that will create new educational and career opportunities for students from that small rural district.
A ceremonial signing was held Wednesday morning at the University Center to kick off a new dual credit program.
It will allow Premont students to attend some classes at A&M Corpus Christi and earn high school and college credit.

PREMONT, Texas â On Thursday, Premont Independent School District was named one of five finalists by the United States Department of Education for its Rural Tech Project program.
As a finalist, the district will receive a $100,000 grant towards the program, and compete against schools from California, Kentucky, Michigan, and Virginia for another $100,000 grant.
âItâs great recognition for the work our people and our kids have done. Itâs an affirmation of our programming, that weâre able to offer such a wide menu of opportunities for kids that go to a rural high school,â said Premont superintendent Steve VanMatre.
