A photo of Spc. Joseph Breining smiling and giving a thumbs-up has spurred the creation of memes. (Twitter)
A photo of Spc. Joseph Breining smiling and giving a thumbs-up during a road march in Kosovo last month garnered the attention of hundreds on Twitter and spurred the creation of memes.
The photo drew comparisons of Breining to the Smilinâ Bob character from Enzyte ânatural male enhancementâ tablet commercials of the early 2000s or to Kenneth Ellen Parcell, the bumpkin-like NBC page in the sitcom â30 Rock.â
At least one commenter saw a modern reincarnation of the smiling soldier raising a canteen cup, originally from a 1943 World War II propaganda poster about rationing, but more familiar to social media users as the âhow about a nice cup of shut the [expletive] upâ meme.
Army to allow ponytails, braids for women U.S. Army soldier wearing new approved ponytail hair style. (Army) Thursday marked the final day of mandated buns for soldiers as the Army announced that it will now permit ponytails for women, regardless of uniform. The change, formalized in ALARACT 040/21, allows female troops to wear their hair in a single ponytail, a single braid, or two braids. The length must not extend below the bottom of the shoulder blades when the soldier is standing at the position of attention.
Releasing today, ALARACT 040/2021 includes revisions to published Grooming Policies authorizing women to wear ponytails in all uniforms on duty. https://t.co/8YG61diYTjpic.twitter.com/OsmSRouPgu SMA Michael Grinston (@16thSMA) May 6, 2021
Pentagon s Tucker Carlson offensive fuels fears of a politicized military Follow Us
Question of the Day By Ben Wolfgang - The Washington Times - Monday, March 15, 2021
The Pentagon’s slow drift into the political mudslinging of Washington may be accelerating under President Biden, with the military’s unusually aggressive attack on a conservative Fox News critic sparking a backlash from conservatives on Capitol Hill and threatening to drag the Defense Department into a broader culture war.
Retired officers and defense analysts say the Pentagon’s decision to go toe-to-toe with Fox News host Tucker Carlson last week has created an entirely avoidable political controversy the kind of controversy that the military has traditionally tried to float above, no matter which party controls the White House.
