Buhari Meets Jonathan Over Mali Crisis

Jonathan, who is Special Envoy and ECOWAS mediator to the West African country, briefed the President on the situation in Mali after meeting with the key political actors ahead of the meeting of ECOWAS leaders under the Chairmanship of President Nana Akufo-Addo of the Republic of Ghana. The ex-President said the meeting of the regional leaders was necessary to urgently find an acceptable solution to the current impasse in the West African nation.

Senate Pledges Support for Service Chiefs to Tackle Insecurity

Deji Elumoye, Udora Orizu and Juliet Akoje in Abuja The Senate yesterday assured the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, the service chiefs, Acting Inspector-General of Police (IG), Mr. Alkali Usman, and heads of intelligence agencies, of its readiness to ensure that they have all they need to tackle the worsening insecurity in the country. President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, gave the assurance while welcoming the security chiefs to a closed-door meeting with senators over security challenges facing the nation. The meeting, which was in response to last week’s summoning of the CDS and service chiefs by the Senate lasted for about four hours.

Osinbajo Presides, FEC Observe One Minute Silence For Late Minister

Channels Television     The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday presided over the 41st virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the State House. The Chief of staff to the president, Professor Ibrahim Gambari as well as the National security adviser, Major General Babagana Munguno (Rtd) physically attended the meeting. Four Ministers including those of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, Finance, Zainab Ahmed, Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajuiba were also physically present. The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, and other Ministers participated in the weekly cabinet meeting from their various offices in Abuja.
