LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPO) recorded 118 suicide cases in the province since the start of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.
Police Major Arturo Melchor, PPO spokesperson, said that out of the 118 suicide cases, 101 happened from January to December 2020 and 17 occurred from January 2021 up to this month.
Based on the data, most of the victims hanged themselves using nylon rope. Five of them were women while the rest were men.
Depression was the reason behind the rise in the number of suicide incidents in province, according to police.
Top municipalities with high number of suicide cases were Dagupan, San Carlos, Sual, Calasiao, and Manaoag.
