Breaking News | Yoruba group seeks deployment of drones in South-West forests

Akinwale Aboluwade  The Majeobaje Movement, a pan-Yoruba group, on Thursday, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, tasked the South-West governors to deploy drones for aerial surveillance in the forest reserves and highways within the zone. It also called for capacity development for the South-West Security Network otherwise known as Amotekun, saying the governors should expand the scope of their state security committees to include traditional rulers and local vigilante groups as a panacea to solving security challenges. This, it said, would help in providing a mechanism for monitoring strange and unusual movements within the zone. In a communique titled, ‘Don’t take the law into your own hands,’ signed by Mr. Yomi Layinka, former Special Adviser (Communication and Strategy) to late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, and Chief Akintayo Akin-Deko, Team Leader and Convener respectively, it expressed sympathy with those who lost their loved ones, their property and livelihood and those wh

This advice was given the the elders, Majeobaje movement after the end of an emergency zoom meeting to discuss  series of interethnic clashes in South-West. In a communique  jointly signed by Akintayo Akin-Deko and Yomi Layinka who are convener and Team leader, Publicity and Sensitization respectively, the elder also called on the governors to give more support to the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun in their various states.

Insecurity: Group berates South-West govs, asks them to empower Amotekun Tunde Ajaja A group in the South-West, Majeobaje Movement, has accused the governors of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo and Osun states of not doing enough to protect lives and property in the region. It lamented that killings, kidnappings, rape and sundry criminal activities had continued to ravage the region under the governors’ watch, with the attendant loss of lives of many illustrious citizens and the destruction of their livelihoods. The group, which described itself as an alliance of professionals, entrepreneurs, policy specialists and academics concerned about and working for improved governance in Nigeria, said these in a ‘Save Our Souls’ letter to the Chairman of the South-West Governor’s Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), on which it also copied in the five other governors.
