Willmar Municipal Utilities' two wind turbines after being plagued throughout 2023 with issues that impeded the generation of power have had two successful months in a row.
The Willmar Municipal Utilities Commission is being prepared for tough conversations regarding the continued use of the wind turbines. A $6 million wind turbine now is standing still while awaiting a $95 part.
The Willmar City Council decision that will be made at its Monday, July 17, meeting will allow Willmar Municipal Utilities to move forward with its long-term plans that have been delayed for months due to council indecision.
A repairman was able to fix the breakers in each Willmar turbine to get them running, but only one continued to run and produce power in April, according to Willmar Municipal Utilities Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor Kevin Marti.
