The work of Campton
What is the difference between public art, graffiti and simple vandalism? Opinions surely vary just as they do when viewing art in the gallery. Over the course of this winter and most recently again this week a series of stenciled spray paintings have appeared around the Golden City. Clearly recognizable for their stenciled style as well as the moniker “Campton”, the identity of the stealthy artist remains unknown. Could Rossland perhaps have its own version of Banksy running about? Early in the winter season a hooded snowboarder in mid nose-grab appeared on the North East corner of the Velvet Hotel building. Most recently on the dividing wall between the Rouge Gallery and the Main Stage Gallery a seven foot tall flower appeared as if having grown out of the sidewalk over-night.
