Letter to The Editor A recent letter sent to the Portland Press Herald by Portland resident, Roger Smith is getting a lot of attention for his complaint about fire pits. Health Hazard In Mr. Smith s letter that you can read here, he states that on one of the recent cooler nights he opened the windows to air out the house. The fresh air wafting through the living space didn t last long though as a neighbor was using a fire pit and was consumed by allergy triggering wood smoke that he refers to as a health hazard . Be Considerate Mr. Smith goes on to say that he doesn t feel that he should have to purchase an air conditioner and that he should just be able to open a window without worrying about some inconsiderate person who wants to play caveman .

The Iconic Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta Returns for 2021 The Pumpkins Return The coastal town of Damariscotta is home to one of Maine s most unique festivals; Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta. Sadly due to the pandemic, the town had to skip the fun festivities but they re all-in for 2021. I have a personal love for the event being from the area and in recent years having the opportunity to participate in the hilarious and harder than it looks regatta. The event is held between October 7th and 11th. Pumpkin Art Main Street in Damariscotta will be lined with giant pumpkins starting on Thursday, October 7th. The next day artists will start their masterpieces. These pumpkins get completely transformed by painting them and carving them. Pumpkins tell stories, feature iconic characters, and are incredibly Insta-worthy.

Normally during the prestigious opening ceremony at the Olympic Games, your eyes would be focused on the tremendous athletes that have worked tirelessly to be amongst the best in the world. But if you plan on watching the opening ceremony on Friday and you re from Maine, make sure to take a peek at the shoes adorned by Team USA and beam with pride as all of them were handmade in Lewiston. Shared on Facebook by Debbie Roy Rancourt, for the second straight Olympic Games, Rancourt and Company Shoemakers will have a featured role in outfitting Team USA in Tokyo. As Rancourt mentions in her Facebook post, the shoes worn by every member the United States Olympic Team during the opening ceremony was crafted by the Lewiston-based company. Just like in 2016, Rancourt and Co. sourced every piece of material here in the United States before piecing together the handmade shoes.
