The long problematic intersection at Main and South streets is getting a face lift.
The Traffic Commission last week approved changes in the traffic pattern at the multi-road intersection and access ramps on and off Mystic Valley Parkway/Rte. 16.
“Doing nothing is not an option,” Police Chief Jack Buckley said during the Jan. 19 meeting. “It’s time to act in the interests of public safety.”
“Safety is of the utmost concern,” Traffic Engineer Todd Blake added. “We all know this is a high crash area.”
Improvements will include:
• South Street: vehicles may turn left or right onto Main Street, but will be restricted from traveling straight onto Interstate 93.
