room and to examine the package further, render it safe, and the investigation here is continuing. employees went back into the building, were allowed to go back into the building here before 3:00 today. 20 minutes after this incident occurred, about 12:45 at the maryland department of transportation headquarters in hanover, maryland, there was a state employee from the department of transportation going through mail in a room near the office of the secretary of the maryland department of transportation. a similar package was examined by that mailroom or that employee. that employee opened the package and a similar reaction occurred. a flash of fire, smoke, and some smell. the employee immediately dropped the package and emergency officials responded to that location. the headquarters was evacuated
that s right. the first thing the first sort of operating assumption is that these are related. you take the facts you ve got and you assume the worst. you want to be prepared to deal with the worst. so the fact that they were near simultaneous suggests the two events are related. they ll work from that premise and try to find further evidence of it or find evidence that it was coincidental. i expect they ll find these are related. let me just look down at my notes. if you re just tuning in and scratching your head over what we re talking about, again, we re talking about two enough incendiary devices. one in hanover, maryland, at the maryland department of transportation headquarters. the other is in the state house office building in annapolis, 16 francis street. it s just across the street actually from the maryland state house. according to a couple of reports that be are confirming, there
