In August Sri Lankans will be paying homage to the Buddha’s tooth relic in Kandy with the Perahera pagent. The Buddha was a great philosopher who preached for the benefit of all especially the lowest levels in the society to overcome their grievances. The ceremony has in fact blessed the country in many ways including the inflow of hard currency through visiting foreign tourists. Due to the COVID – 19 pandemic most hard currency inflow channels have dried & only the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) related investment projects are on schedule in most struggling economies. Historically Sri Lankan elite have had serious conflicts about the ownership of the Tooth Relic but since independence many in the lower levels in the social pyramid have benefited with the financial resources related to the Tooth Relic.

In 1398 the Ming dynasty started ruling Great China & the imperial navy under the command of Admiral Zheng He sailed the known world connecting China to the rest of the world. The Sunflower which was native to South America arrived in China through the international relations developed during the Ming dynasty according to Chinese sources. The bright yellow flower with its towering big figure gives very effective first impression on its beauty to anyone who sees it. During the Qing dynasty Chinese people were already cultivating & getting the best from the Sunflower to promote good health.

Any society in the world will be stable if its armed forces are strong to protect it. That will eventually result in social development and increased trade due to surplus production. The ancient Silk Road originally was the trade route which took external goods to Great China and vice versa. With trade developed political ties and since many dignitaries took the same route to meet political leaders down the trade route it was also known as the Envoy Road. As per Chinese Archaeological findings, there are records of approx. 1,400 diplomats who had entered Great China through this network long before the western powers came out in the 1500s. During the Han dynasty in 2nd Century BC, military diplomat General Zhang Qian contributed immensely to connect China with the world and to establish law and order in the Northwestern and Western parts of China.
