Chennai:
Two Chinese and as many Indian nationals have been arrested for allegedly operating instant loan apps, the police said on Saturday.
Investigation, based on a complaint in the city, revealed the prime accused to be operating from China, the police said.
The two Indians had been operating the call centre from Bengaluru and had employed over 100 people to provide quick online loans, they said.
Each employee had been asked to sanction instant loans to at least 10 people in a week and threatened of being sacked if they failed to do so, said the police.

The city police said the number of murder cases and chain snatching offences have been fewer in 2020 compared to 2019. Also, more cases were booked against drug peddlers this year, compared to 2019.
In 2020, the number of murder cases reported was 147, while it was 173 in the previous year. All the 147 murder cases have been solved and the accused have been arrested. Similarly, there has been a substantial reduction in the occurrences of chain snatching. A total of 246 cases were reported in 2020 against 310 cases during the previous year.

The city police detained three accused including a former manager of Indian under Goondas Act.
Police named B.Vinodh, 33, former manager of Indian Bank, Surya alias Naidu, 22 of K.K.Nagar and Ranjith alias Ranjith Kumar, 23 of Thiruvallur district as the detenues.
