BAGHDAD, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) A member of the Iraqi parliamentary security committee Mahdi Amerli said on Monday that militants of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group are unable to seize any Iraqi area, a local news agency said.
Amerli told Baghdad Today News Agency that there are some IS sleeper cells in some provinces that launch surprise attacks against security forces and civilians. These cells are unable to repeat the 2014 scenario by controlling some Iraqi provinces, the news agency quoted Amerli as saying.
Amerli s comments came in response to foreign media reports, which warned of a possible return of IS militants in Iraq and Syria.
