At least 15 incidents related to leopards have been recorded in western Maharashtra in January, including human-leopard conflicts, accidents, and reunions. The forest department, along with RESQ Charitable Trust, has addressed the incidents and highlighted the need for urgent attention from authorities due to the rising incidents of human-leopard conflicts.
A 19-year-old woman died after a leopard attacked her and dragged her into sugarcane fields at a village in Shirur tehsil of Maharashtra's Pune district on Wednesday, police said.
A woman fought with a leopard with a stick to save her three-year-old daughter from its jaws. This was the 16th such incident that had occurred in the region, because of which the angry public held 10 forest officials hostage and demanded action against the man-eating leopard.
