Reports submitted before the Bombay High Court in a PIL highlight a severe lack of facilities for female lawyers, litigants, and staff in courts across the states of Maharashtra, Goa, as well as Union.
The Supreme Court on Thursday underscored that the high pendency of cases before courts cannot be resolved unless the lawyers also cooperate with the process and act in a fair manner.
The issues flagged in the plea included the need for separate bar rooms for women in court complexes and the lack of changing rooms and clean washrooms for women, among others.
The Bombay High Court rejected a plea challenging the approval granted by the High Court for establishing a court in Wai, located in Satara district of Maharashtra.
