Maharashtra recorded as many as 53,605 coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the tally of infections in the state to 50,53,336, the death toll increased to 75,277 with 864 new fatalities.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced a lockdown in the state till May 15. The decision came a day after the Patna High Court observed that the state government should “enforce lockdown or the court will order it”.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the only way now to stop the raging coronavirus pandemic was to impose a full lockdown. He said the Narendra Modi government’s inaction was killing many innocent people.
India on Tuesday registered 3,57,229 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the country to 2,02,82,833 since the pandemic broke out in January 2020. This is the third consecutive day when the daily infection count dropped after crossing the 4-lakh mark. The toll climbed by 3,449 to 2,22,408. The number of active cases in the country stood at 34,47,133.

Fifteen districts in Maharashtra - the worst-affected state with around 6.6 lakh active cases - are showing a decline in coronavirus caseloads, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said Tuesday evening.
The districts reporting a drop in cases are Mumbai, Aurangabad, Thane, Nashik, Raigad, Nagpur, Latur, Amravati, Nanded, Dhule, Bhandara, Nandurbar, Osmanabad, Chandrapur and Gondia.
Mr Tope also said around 18.5 lakh vaccine doses - 13.58 lakh of Covishield and 4.89 lakh of Covaxin - had been ordered, as the state steps up vaccination of people in the 18-44 age group.
Around nine lakh more doses have been received for people over 45, he added. Till Monday there were only 25,000 doses left for this group, forcing the vaccination drive to stop in some places.

Maharashtra records 48,621 COVID-19 cases, 567 deaths
Maharashtra recorded as many as 48,621Â coronavirus cases on Monday, taking the tally of infections in the state to 47,71,022, the death toll increased to 70,851 with 567 new fatalities.Â
As many as 59,500 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recovered patients to 40,41,158. The number of active cases stands at 6,56,870.
Maharashtra s recovery rate of COVID-19 cases is 84.7Â per cent, while the fatality rate is 1.49Â per cent.
Currently, 39,08,491 people are in home quarantine and 28,593 are in institutional quarantine.
