A MAGISTRATE has expressed frustration with the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions for âwasting the courtâs timeâ, during the sentencing of a man on drug charges this week.
When charges left over from a sentencing matter heard in Brisbane Supreme Court were instead referred back to Ipswich Magistrates Court to be dealt with it, it clearly caused the magistrate some annoyance on what was already a busy day.
Nigel Grant Earley, 49, from Bundamba, appeared from jail via video-link before the Ipswich court and pleaded guilty to nine charges that included drug and utensil possession offences, and a breach of his bail.

An Ipswich man is accused of committing further offences while on parole, despite having to wear a GPS tracker.
During the man’s bail application on Monday, Magistrate Virginia Sturgess said there was strong evidence he had been found in a stolen vehicle and allegedly had methamphetamine and a knife.
Joshua Peter Robert Haufe, 28, from Regents Park, faced court charged with new offences of unlawful use of a motor vehicle at Redbank Plains on April 15; possession of a dangerous drug; and possession of a knife in public.
Lawyer Matt Gemmell argued that Haufe was suited to bail as he was subject to 24-hour monitoring with a GPS tracker, and to the reporting conditions of a parole order.

In the problematic case of what exactly the court should do given his special circumstances, the young man is under the care of the Public Guardian but it is alleged that he continues to abscond from his designated carers and behave aggressively. In recent weeks he has appeared in custody before Ipswich Magistrates Court charged with offences of violence. After being granted bail last week and released into the care of a supervised residential facility, he was rearrested by police within hours and charged with new offences.

But in court he came clean, admitting that he d been on his way to a lawnmowing job. Adding insult to injury, Troy Paxton only had four weeks to go before he could regain his licence, Ipswich Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday. The lawn mowing business operator turned what would have been a 12-week disqualification into two more years off the road. The magistrate warned Paxton that police were now using technology that made it a lot easier for people just like him to get caught out.
