As we all inch back out there, Mexico certainly has appeal, thanks to its proximity to the United States and familiarity for American travelers especially at a time when traveling abroad is still nebulous. In fact, with most of Europe and many other destinations off the table as of late, some parts of Mexico saw an increase in American arrivals late last year when compared to the same time in 2019. According to the Washington Post, the state of Quintana Roo, which is home to Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, saw a 23 percent rise in U.S. visitors. (The proof is in most of our Instagram feeds, as well.)

These cities and towns, known as Pueblos Magicos, or Magical Towns, are cultural treasures bestowed with this designation thanks to their commitment to heritage and tradition.  Mexico has more than 100 of these towns all over the country. You may know many of them, like Sayulita just north of Puerto Vallarta, Todos Santos near Los Cabos and Isla Mujeres just off the coast of Cancun. Some are lesser known, like San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas and Taxco in Guerrero. And still there are those that are likely completely off the radar, like Patzcuaro in Michoacan and Real de Catorce in San Luis Potosi.

After being re-elected for one more year at the head of that council, he indicated that the critical situation of tourism forces to close ranks and work together, so they have made alliances with other business organizations to generate proposals that allow them to advance in reservations, overnight stays, that result in more economic spill and employment for the state.
