Apple fails to get stage lighting MacBook Pro suit dismissed

A judge has reduced the scope of a class action lawsuit concerning Apple s 15-inch MacBook Pro display issues, but denies the company s move to dismiss the case. Apple s 2016 15-inch and 13-inch MacBook Pro design featured a thin flex cable linking the display. Opening and closing the MacBook Pro put stress on the cable and some users found it tore, leading to what was called a stage light effect with the backlighting being damaged. While Apple changed its design to remove the issue, and also launched a repair program, it was still hit by a class action suit filed in May 2020.

Apple researching AR pop-up booths to remotely demonstrate devices

Pop-up retail booths could let customers interact remotely with Apple personal shoppers, as they demonstrate iPhone or other devices through video and AR. Apple has already experimented with virtual demonstrations in the Apple Store. It s created in-store HomeKit hands-on demos for lighting too. And it s researched having Apple personal shopper staff appear in your home through AR. Now a newly-revealed patent application shows that Apple is looking at how to create demonstration units, devices for remotely demonstrating products to customers in a fluid, visually-appealing manner. It s a system for how an Apple employee could be filmed doing a live demonstration, and that demo being relayed virtually to a buyer.

Apple now required to offer Russian iPhone users local apps at setup

Apple is now required to offer Russian iOS users a selection of local apps when setting up a new device, per legislation passed in the country in 2019 and took effect on April 1. The Russian law, passed in November 2019, requires that companies present a list of government-approved apps on devices sold within the country. Initially slated to go into effect in January, it was then delayed until April 1. As of Thursday, the law affects all new devices sold and set up in Russia including iPhones and other Apple products. The law mandates that Russian apps come preinstalled on devices, but Apple was reportedly able to come to an agreement with the Russian government on a compromise.
