Mary Robosson Special to the Daily News More than a year ago, when the weight of the COVID-19 pandemic began to be felt, the Palm Beach Civic Association acted swiftly to keep our members, directors and employees safe.  Events were canceled or postponed. A remote work policy was enacted for our staff. From March 13, 2020, through our annual meeting on April 30, an entire year passed without any in-person gatherings. All internal meetings were conducted electronically.  Yet we managed to make it through a global pandemic, never once hitting the pause button, to serve our community in ways like we had never done before.

Donald Trump returned to his private Mar-a-Lago Club before lunchtime Jan. 20, finishing the final few hours of his lone presidential term far from Washington, D.C., where he had lived the previous four years with his wife, Melania, and teenage son, Barron. His return to Palm Beach three months after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and later hospitalized was not without controversy. Neighbors of the former president want to block him from living at the club he bought in 1986, citing a 1993 agreement he signed with the town that allowed Trump to convert the private residence into a private club.

Planning board to recommended extended trial period for expanded outdoor dining Palm Beach Daily News After spending the past several weeks reviewing outdoor dining in the town, the Planning and Zoning Commission will recommend to Town Council that the existing expansion should continue on a trial basis for another year and that restaurants should not be allowed to increase their total number of seats.  In a meeting Tuesday, commissioners also agreed that outdoor seats should not go beyond the perimeter of the restaurant; they will make that recommendation to the council when it meets next month. Zoning Director Wayne Bergman told the commission that council members discussed the issue at their recent meeting and did not want the town to be a dining destination.
