TOUGH TONK S HARRISON-DAWSON THRILLER

Tiggerlong Tonk driving clear in the final bounds to score by 1.37 lengths in 29.23sec. It was his 39 th win from 27 appearances at Sandown. “That was just a good contest between him and Catch The Thief. He had to bring his best to win and he did,” said Grenfell. “He was always going to dig deep and keep coming. He’s got a great will to win.” The $100,000 winner’s purse elevated Tiggerlong Tonk‘s prizemoney total to $676,015 and with five minor placings at G1 level that figure could have been significantly higher. But there’s every chance he’ll be adding to his tally, with Grenfell saying a stud career will have to wait.

Seventh Heaven for club stalwarts in Past Members Trophy

Isaac Murphy THERE could be no more appropriate winner of the Past Members Trophy than the flying Spring Cleo for Pauline Byers. Not only did the bitch extend her winning streak to seven but did so in a race that remembers late members of the club who made lasting contributions. Arguably no-one left a bigger imprint on the club than the late Col Byers who would have been smiling from above as his wife s greyhound of the year frontrunner did it again. The win was Spring Cleo s 10th of the year. With her ability to bounce between the four and five hundred metre trips in top grade, who knows what she could tally by the end of the year.

Promising pup back and better than ever at Ipswich track

VETERAN trainer Brian Francis is still churning out promising young pups. He looked to be on the right track when Hyacinthus won his maiden over the five hundred at Ipswich at just 21 months in August last year. Unfortunately, the son of Barcia Bale was unable to kick on as he spent over four months off the scene battling injury, eventually returning in a tough Novice Christmas-Eve at Albion Park. While he didn t figure in the placings there or his next run over the 395 the money came thick and fast for him back at Ipswich over the five hundred on Saturday night. He didn t disappoint.
