George Steinbrenner bought the New York Yankees in 1973. Four years later, the Bronx Bombers won their first World Series championship in 15 years. Steinbrenner proceeded to lead his organization to seven rings prior to his death in 2010. The team has not won a World Championship since. What would The Boss do following a season like 2022?
The baseball fields at Magee Park in Delmar are usually hopping late into October with as much Little League fall baseball as they can fit in before the ground hardens from the cold temperatures. One cool event, that is in its second year, puts the spirit of the league's enthusiastic players into one last fun Halloween party. Saturday October 29th, Tri Village Little League will host a Trunk or Treat. Over two dozen cars will be decorated in Halloween style with volunteers in costume.
There is a big football game on Saturday at noon on ABC-TV. It features #14 Syracuse taking on #5 Clemson. This is the best Syracuse Orange football team in at least the last 4 years and maybe in decades. Clemson football star head coach, Dabo Swinney, may have summed it up best on Tuesday, “Dino’s got ‘em going, man. He’s got an offense that can score. He’s got a scheme that creates challenges.” Handsome praise from a coach that has enjoyed the highest pinnacle in college football.
Sunday May 22nd from 2:30pm to 4pm at Tri Little League in Delmar there will be a baseball clinic open to kids from 5-12 years-old. The cost of the instructional afternoon is only $5 per player. All proceeds from the afternoon, including a percentage of the concessions, will go to the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York, in memory of Lazar LaPenna, the 11 year-old boy that died from a seizure while playing Little League on Long Island on April 29th.
